As someone who's MANIC episodes have ended 3/4 times by police intervention I can attest to how scary the situation can become. Mr. Wallace's death is a tragedy and its sad that I have to say this is a very brave take on an event that caused societal madness.
Everyone cares about mental health until you start showing symptoms.
You are so right. I'm going to return to this topic after I'm finished posting my book, especially the possible legal and abusive implications of the rollout of the new 988 crisis line. Every time we solve a problem we create two more, and even though calls to 988 promise positive mental health support, the people who respond to these calls are often untrained and misinformed about mental health and the possibility of violence.
While in school right now I'm hoping to time getting my LPC with some sort of public push to get therapists in the station with police officers. A job I believe I would enjoy for at least a time. Maybe get a set up with my own office? Ha! I can dream. But seriously, not all calls requiring police intervention need a therapist tag along, but the the 911/988 operators should be trained to know when to make that distinction. -Cheers!
Thanks for writing this George.

Thank you. So sad. So unnecessary.
Wonder if mental health practitioners can do ongoing in-service trainings for each precinct?Maybe even know (about) the folks in their neighborhoods.
